| Moving the Bomb Line A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO AMTGARD POLITICS |

IX. In ConclusionThere are plenty of details that I haven’t addressed in these pages, but when it comes right down to it, practically everything having to do with an Amtgard political career can be dealt with if you gather information, use common sense and engage your brain when you make decisions. If you’re sitting there thinking, “All this is just stupid! This is just a game! No one should be thinking this hard about these things!” then my question to you is- why have you read this far? Clearly this document wasn’t for you! Amtgard is a game. Amtgard is also a fighting, arts and sciences, political and social organization that most of us would like to see survive and grow for many, many years to come. That longevity and growth doesn’t happen on its own- it takes people who are willing to go a step beyond simply swinging stick at the park each weekend to make it happen. I’ve heard people say too many times that they don’t want the headache of holding office, that they are afraid of the fallout, the rumor mill, the burn out. Above all, they curse and shake their fists at the heavens over the “politics!” If this game is to survive and grow, each successive generation needs to do its part, and this means we need more people willing to step into the realm of “politics” and fewer people who have knee-jerk reactions at the very thought of the word. Politics aren’t bad. How people behave can make them so. How you behave is up to you. Do the math and do your part. If we’re lucky, we’ll all get to watch our grandchildren enjoy this game we’ve all worked so hard to make a fun, safe, prosperous place for everyone to enjoy. |
